A home that won't cost the earth
Creating a truly sustainable home
Building a home with a genuinely low environmental impact is still a challenge — and relatively uncommon — in New Zealand today.
We're on a mission to change that. By breaking down the misconceptions around sustainable building, we hope to make conscious construction more accessible and appealing.
As a family, we're committed to creating a warm, dry, and healthy home — one that treads lightly on the environment, is cost-effective, and looks great too.
We believe it's not only possible — it's the way forward.
Follow our build journey as we share the products, materials, and design choices we're making, with a focus on sustainability, low carbon, and long-term efficiency.

What does sustainable building mean?
Sustainable building involves creating structures that meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. It considers the environmental, social, and economic aspects of construction, and aims to reduce the building's impact on the planet.
To us sustainable building means we could Sustain building in this way for years and years, to create homes for families like ours without causing harm to the inhabitants or the environment along the way.
In details, it means not taking up too much land for each property, that the properties are in easy access by foot or bike to local amenities and public transport. It means the home uses very little power other than what it generates itself, that it is airtight and uses filtered ventilation. We want the products we use to be low toxicity, low carbon, or even better sequestering carbon in it's formation.
We want to create a building with a comprehensive eco-friendly approach from the build stage, ensuring well-being from day one and for the future.

Who are we?
We're a typical kiwi family with 2 busy children, an energetic dog, and both of us working outside the construction industry.
We are wanting to create a healthy home for our kids to grow up in.
We also want this home to be light on the planet, aesthetically pleasing, cost very little to run and be as low in carbon as we can create it. The kicker is that we want this to be at a comparable price to other new builds that just meet code. Can it be done?
We are not professional architects or builders and don't have our roots in the construction field. Instead, we're just ordinary folks who are keen to explore better methods of creating homes.
